The Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority Selects CTI’s AI/ESG Guidance Project

The Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority (Finansinspektionen) recently launched the Innovation Compass, a new initiative aimed at identifying areas where the financial sector would benefit from clearer regulatory guidance. Through this initiative, FI invited market participants to submit suggestions for topics where supervisory clarification may be needed.

One of the suggestions came from CTI, which has been a forerunner in the use of AI for ESG data retrieval, having launched its first AI model already in early 2024. Through developing and deploying AI-driven ESG data solutions, CTI has observed first-hand the uncertainties, knowledge gaps, and questions in the market regarding the reliability and use of automated data extraction methods.

FI has now decided to move forward with this suggestion as a guidance project. The project will focus on the reliability and practical use of automated and AI-based methods for retrieving ESG data, an increasingly important topic as financial institutions rely on such data for risk assessment, regulatory reporting, and sustainability analysis.

Within the project, FI will work together with industry participants to identify concrete challenges, technical considerations, and areas where supervisory guidance could support the market when using AI-driven ESG data methods.

Professionals and organizations with relevant expertise are invited to participate in the work.

Applications to join the project are open until 29 March 2026.
